In the warmth and brightness of early spring, a spirit of legacy and renewal filled the air. On March 10, the donation signing ceremony for the “芭乐视频 Jiahui Education Fundamental Sciences Scholarship” was grandly held at the Student Center on the Minhang Campus.
Yu Shuang, Founder of the Qiguang Foundation, CEO of Jiahui Education Group, undergraduate alumna (Class of 2012) of the School of Mechanical Engineering, and EMBA alumna (Class of 2024); Zhu Jie, Secretary-General of the Foundation; Li Qingyue, Director of the Foundation Office; and faculty representatives from Jiahui Education Group—Zhang Yifan (Master’s alumna, Class of 2025, Antai College of Economics and Management) and Peng Yiming (undergraduate alumnus, Class of 2020, School of Materials Science and Engineering)—made a special trip to attend the ceremony.
Zhao Xin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC 芭乐视频 Committee, welcomed the guests from the Qiguang Foundation on behalf of the university. Lou Yuan, Dean of the School of Mathematical Sciences; Wu Yingqiang, Party Secretary of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering; Wang Yushen, Director of the Office of Development and Liaison and Secretary-General of the Education Development Foundation; along with representatives from relevant schools and administrative departments, jointly witnessed this meaningful occasion. The ceremony was hosted by Wang Yushen.

At the event, Zhao Xin presented Yu Shuang with a donation certificate and a commemorative plaque in appreciation.

The newly established scholarship will primarily support students in the three major fundamental science disciplines—mathematics, physics, and chemistry. It aligns precisely with the university’s goal of cultivating top-tier talent in foundational disciplines, providing students with stable academic and research support, and fostering a new generation of young scholars equipped with both innovative capabilities and strong research potential.
The Qiguang Foundation is a public-interest foundation dedicated to supporting basic research, established by enterprises and social contributors. It was jointly initiated by Peng Jiahui, founder of Jiahui Education Group, and Yu Shuang. Over the past fourteen years, Jiahui Education has upheld its mission of “making learning better and cultivating well-rounded talents for the nation,” striving to nurture future leaders who possess both academic excellence and sound character.
Yu Shuang expressed her deep affection for her alma mater:
“During my two periods of study at SJTU, the motto ‘Gratitude and Responsibility’ has taken deep root in my heart. No matter how far I go, SJTU will always be my spiritual home. The practical and steadfast spirit of SJTU people has continually guided my growth and inspired the entire Jiahui Education team to move forward. As the university celebrates its 130th anniversary this year, we have decided, in the name of Jiahui Education and through the Qiguang Foundation, to provide dedicated support to the Schools of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry for ten consecutive years. We hope to offer meaningful assistance to students devoted to fundamental research and pursuing their dreams at the forefront of science. We also hope that our modest contribution will encourage more social forces to pay attention to the development of foundational scientific talent, and we look forward to greater alumni participation in building a vibrant ecosystem of alumni collaboration and university-enterprise partnership.”
This donation is not Yu Shuang’s first act of giving back to her alma mater. With sincere gratitude and dedication, she has long embodied the SJTU spirit of “Gratitude and Responsibility” through concrete actions.

Zhao Xin expressed heartfelt thanks to Yu Shuang and the Qiguang Foundation for their generosity. He noted that in recent years, the university has strengthened the cultivation of talent in fundamental disciplines in alignment with national strategic needs, fostering an innovative and collaborative educational ecosystem. The establishment of the Jiahui Education Fundamental Sciences Scholarship is both timely and far-reaching in significance.
“It is not only a generous gift for the university’s 130th anniversary,” Zhao said, “but also a powerful response to the call of the times—a heartfelt expression of inheritance and hope for the future.”
The scholarship’s targeted support for mathematics, physics, and chemistry closely aligns with the current demands of fundamental research. Breakthroughs in key “bottleneck” technologies ultimately depend on sustained progress in basic research. “Fundamental disciplines are the foundation of all scientific research—without a solid foundation, no grand structure can stand.”
This act of support resonates strongly with the university’s ongoing efforts to strengthen fundamental disciplines and advance its interdisciplinary innovation strategy. Zhao further emphasized that the scholarship embodies the philosophy of “long-term support for young innovators, allowing them to devote ten years to focused research,” offering sustained and precise nurturing across all stages of study. More importantly, it enables students to feel the dual support of the university and alumni, a spiritual inheritance that surpasses material assistance.
It was also reported that during the Qiguang Foundation’s first “Qiguang Scholars” selection in 2025, two young scholars from SJTU were selected and received key support. The establishment of this scholarship marks a deepening of cooperation between the two parties and represents an important implementation of the Foundation’s “Qiguang Program” in the field of higher education talent cultivation.
During the discussion session, faculty members from relevant schools and departments shared insights on the importance and practice of cultivating students in fundamental disciplines. They emphasized that strengthening the development of foundational scientific talent is crucial to reinforcing the nation’s scientific and technological strength. The strong support from Jiahui Education and the Qiguang Foundation provides vital assurance for students to pursue their studies with dedication and confidence, injecting new momentum into the university’s efforts to consolidate its foundation in basic disciplines and cultivate future research leaders.
After the ceremony, representatives from Jiahui Education visited the university’s Mental Health Education and Counseling Center, gaining a close look at the campus’s educational atmosphere and humanistic care. Through further exchanges, both sides built greater consensus, laying a promising foundation for deeper collaboration in talent cultivation and the advancement of fundamental sciences.
