SPIRITUALITY

“Do not go outside yourself, but enter into yourself, for truth dwells in the interior self." -St. Augustine of Hippo

Inspired by the teachings of St. Augustine, °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ’s Mission and Ministry offers you the opportunity to discover and deepen your sense of spirituality through communal and personal practices. Through mindfulness, meditation, centering prayers and other offerings we invite you to delve deeper inside yourself. We also offer spiritual direction as well as special opportunities for multifaith explorations and for those involved in athletics.

Jummah Prayer

All are welcome to attend Jummah, Muslim congregational prayer, held every Friday, 1:45 p.m, in the Multifaith Prayer Room on the 3rd floor of St. Rita Hall. A sermon is offered by a local imam, followed by traditional prayer. Co-sponsored by the  and Mission and  Ministry.

SPORTS & SPIRITUALITY

Sports and the way that we play the game can reveal to us who we truly are as a player, as a teammate, and as a person. In turn, our journey towards holistic development will ultimately shape how we live our lives and will impact how we play the game.

The Sports & Spirituality Program seeks to walk with student-athletes along their journey towards discovering their best selves by providing opportunities for prayer, self-reflection and meaningful connection with one's self, friends and teammates both inside and outside of sports.

Team Retreats & Reflections

Retreats and reflections are opportunities for teammates to step back from their demanding schedules to renew their spirits and form deeper relationships with themselves and one another through personal reflection, team-building activities, and conversation. Retreats and reflections are tailored to the team and can range from full days to an afternoon or evening. For more information please contact David Walsh.

Timeout

Timeout is a reflection group that invites all student-athletes, regardless of their faith or spirituality, to take a break from their busy schedules to reflect on and talk about life inside and outside of sports. During the fall 2019 semester, Timeout will meet every other Sunday evening from 7-8 PM in Tracy Lounge in St. Rita Hall. For more information please contact David Walsh.

Athletes in Action

Athletes in Action is a student-led bible study to help student-athletes plug in with other Christians and learn how to take their passion, faith, and sport to new places, and understand what it mean to play for an Audience of One. Meetings are Thursday nights at 7:30 PM in the Devon Room in the Connelly Center.

In partnership with Habitat for Humanity, °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ Athletics organizes a service trip the week after spring semester final exams that provides student-athletes with the opportunity to work towards social justice and the common good by living out °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ's Augustinian values of veritas, unitas, and caritas. For more information please contact Lynn Tighe.

The following practices are offered weekly while classes are in session.

Mindfulness Mondays, 1 p.m. St. Rita Multifaith Prayer Room

Mindfulness Monday offers an opportunity to intentionally practice attention and awareness in the present moment. This in-person and virtual gathering is ACS-approved, presented by University Ministry and co-sponsored by Falvey Library. We invite you to join us for mindfulness on Mondays from 1 to 1:30 p.m. in the Multifaith Prayer Room or . All are welcome.

Contemplative Yoga, Tuesdays, 4 p.m. St. Rita Multifaith Prayer Room

These gentle yoga sessions weave together breathwork, mindful movement, and guided meditation to support mental, spiritual, and physical well-being. Rooted in themes of balance, gratitude, and sustainability, the practice invites you to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and cultivate a sense of presence that extends beyond the mat into daily life. No prior yoga experience or supplies required — all are welcome. Mats provided.

Walking the Labyrinth, Wednesdays, 1 p.m., Tolentine Lawn

Join us in an ancient practice of embodying the metaphysical journey of life by walking the labyrinth, a circular path that represents the many journeys (internal and external) we take in life. Facilitated walks will be offered for free outdoors (weather permitting) at the Tolentine Green, with a rain location at the St. Rita Multifaith Prayer Room. Come with an open mind, leave feeling a little more grounded.

FIVE MINUTES WITH GOD

We offer the °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ community a program called Five Minutes with God. Within the five-minute time frame we first look at a concrete situation in the world, illuminate it with God’s Word and the Augustinian tradition, finishing with a small prayer where we commit ourselves to building a better world.

SPIRITUAL COMPANIONSHIP

Spiritual Companionship, sometimes called spiritual direction/guidance, is a practice of listening together to how the divine might be moving in your own life in the present moment.  It may include moments of silence, shared prayer using language that fits your present experience of the holy, and intentional conversation.

Sitting and listening with someone trained in spiritual accompaniment aims to foster greater attentiveness to the way God may be speaking and moving in your own lived experience. If you are interested in exploring this possibility, regardless of your faith tradition or religious experience, please contact Brian McCabe.
